Welcome to ‘Dark Girl’, the Lookbook Series

Why a new lookbook series dedicated to Dark Girls?

It’s simple. I felt as though while we as Brown women are building self-confidence through the lens of beauty, I’ve still heard from many darker ladies speak on their lack of ability in trying certain makeup trends due to their complexion. Actually, just two days ago a young woman, about my complexion, came over to me while I was having dinner with a friend and asked me how I felt confident wearing Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Liquid Lipstick in American Doll. It’s a very, very bright red matte finish.

My answer to her was very simple: we can wear every color, we just have to find our best hue in the color family. I obviously can’t wear every shade of red lipstick out there, because not all of them would match my undertone (which is sort of red and yellow). But, I can find the best red, purple and even black lipstick and pull it off. And you can, too.

So that’s why I’ve decided to start Dark Girl. An ongoing lookbook series where I hope to inspire my #BeautifullyBrown followers to try that makeup trend they’ve been dreaming of or at least attempt at playing around with something new. For me, it’s all about being a little daring and have a little fun. That’s all! It’s not rocket science, it’s beauty. It’s girlhood and womanhood and it’s here for us to enjoy.

So, I introduce to you Dark Girl.

Dedicated to all of the darker brown beauties out there who didn’t think they could wear that specific lip color or blush or eye shadow.

This is for you.

      No, thank you!

  • I am in LOVE with your Dark Girls series! I have so many friends who are afraid of color. They want to stick to a light barely there pink or nude which is fine BUT I believe there are so many beautiful colors out their that is not made for just the lighter shade to enjoy! We are all beautiful our lipsticks and or skin tones on each end of the spectrum! 😉
