I was in the Bahamas with my family, and we were just enjoying a day at the pool. And I happened to notice that many, if not all, of the women there were confident, rocking their bathing suits (many bikinis, some thong bikinis) and seemingly free. Something I hadn’t seen when I was little and even in my tweens. The tankini era took over and made any woman over 35 feel like it was her only option.
Thank God that era is over and the consensus amongst women, but especially Black and brown women, on social media is: do you. Whether you’re afraid to rock the bikini because of your love handles or have always wanted to try a thong bikini just because, I say do it. This summer I made a vow to rock the sexiest, brightest bathing suits.
I believe in red on our skin. Always. However, you still have to find the right red for your skin tone. Remember the annoyance many people had with the blue carpet and how it washed out many of the celebrities at the BET Awards? Yeah. If all shades of red lipstick won’t work for everyone, then your bathing suit shade is no different.
If you have a cool undertone, look for vivid reds that have a blue-ish undertone to them.
If you have a warm undertone, look for bright orange-red bathing suits that will stand out against your skin, instead of making you look dull.

The Brightest Orange
This shade may photograph a bit more yellow, but it really does give me that pop of orange I like when against my skin. Orange is one of the colors that I still see some brown (especially darker women) stray away from and for the life of me, I don’t know why. It’s elegant, sexy and just overall one of those colors you can’t be missed in.

Missguided Triangle Ribbed Mix and Match Bikini: Top:$14 and Bottom: $17
It’s really easy to feel confident in a one-piece with just the right cutouts. I love a good one-piece when I’m on vacation and I know for a fact I’ll be eating and drinking the most at the pool. But I also love a one-piece because sometimes the silhouette it gives your body is hard to ignore. some really good one-pieces that I know will look good on curves are below.
