Another day, another fabulous Black woman shutting down magazine covers. First we got a sneak peek at Ciara’s Shape magazine glossy, then Beyonce came and snatched our edges with her historic Vogue issue, and now Kerry Washington is reminding us who’s in control on the cover of Self.
Can Black Girl Magic get any better than this?
In the coveted September issue, Washington gushes on her three loves: her 17-month old daughter Isabelle, hubby Nnamdi and Shih Tzu-Yorkie, Josie. Taking a break from all of the Scandal talk, Washington goes into depth about why Pilates is, and has been for some time, her go-to workout, sharing that she never misses a session. “I have to take care of myself in order to live life the way I want to”, she says, as she opens up her life (and gym) to journalist Molly Knight.
Beyond inspired, we’re happy to see a Black woman speaking on the importance of health, fitness and family in a pivotal magazine issue. It’s easy to big up their celebrity status, but getting a snapshot into the daily life of a woman as talented, famous and yet, ordinary and relatable as Washington is more like a breath of fresh air.
