Dark Girl, Burgundy Lips

It’s just a fun mini-series I conjured up. I want to, again, stress that brown and dark girls (which, in a sense, we are one in the same), are still somewhat in the thinking pattern that they can’t wear certain beauty trends. Most of the time, we stay away from the colors. For instance, many darker women may say “I can’t wear orange lipstick or brown eyeshadow”. But, usually, we don’t know where this idea of not being able to pull something off comes from. It just sort of pops up in our heads immediately, and I think a big part of that is because we don’t usually see ourselves in beauty ads or campaigns wearing these trends.

So, I’ve decided to start a fun column, mostly dedicated to #BeautifullyBrown women with deeper and darker complexions, to help you all start to see that it’s not always about the exact replication of a trend, but more so about figuring out how to make the trend work for you.

I begin with dark, vampy burgundy lips. They’re a big hit for the fall season, and I found my perfect concoction. I’ve also listed some amazing lip colors for you ladies to go out and sample on your own.

Here’s what I used:

MAC’s Matte Lingering Kiss lipstick (unfortunately discontinued)

NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Rouge Tribal ($26)

Some amazing options for dark girl:

MAC Dark Side lipstick ($17) –Has a bit more burgundy tint to it

NYX Butter Lipstick in Maroon ($5.99)

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Burgundy Blush (Target, Walmart)

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte in Commanding ($30)

Wet ‘N’ Wild Lipstick in Cherry Bomb ($1.99)

The Lip Bar’s Sweet Shiraz ($20)

Revlon Lustrious Lipcolor in Black Cherry ($7.99)

Revlon Lustrious Lipcolor in Va Va Violet ($7.99)

MAC  Lipstick in Media (satin finish) ($17)

Are there any other burgundy lip colors you BBGals swear by?
